The Criminal Division prosecutes all felonies committed in Preble County, and all misdemeanors occurring in the unincorporated areas of the county. Misdemeanors occurring in the City of Eaton, or within the corporate limits of any of the Villages, will be reported to and prosecuted by the respective City/Village prosecutors’ office.

A misdemeanor is a crime punishable by up to six months in local jail. A felony is is any crime punishable by at least one year in state prison.  The goal of the criminal division is to protect our community from crime by securing convictions and sentences which segregate repeat and violent offenders from society and which seek to rehabilitate suitable offenders through punishment and/or treatment.  As always, we remain focused at all times on the victims of crime, consulting with our victims at every step of the criminal justice process and pursuing restitution where appropriate.

Prosecuting Attorney Martin P. Votel and Chief Assistant Prosecutor Gractia S. Manning are the attorneys for this division.
